Arthur is a charming 35ft traditional stern Colecraft narrowboat, built in 1986, offering a classic layout with plenty of character and thoughtful features throughout. Well cared for and full of potential, he’s an ideal choice for couples or solo boaters looking for a manageable, well-built boat with a solid hull and a bright, welcoming interior.
Starting at the bow, Arthur features a generous front deck with built-in benches on either side and space for a table — perfect for alfresco dining or relaxing on sunny days. The gas locker is located at the bow with room for two bottles and additional storage, while the stainless steel water tank (approx. 350 litres) sits neatly beneath the deck, supplying water via a new SHURflo pump fitted in 2023.
Entering through double doors, you step into a light and airy saloon, flooded with natural light from large hopper windows on all sides. The antique hardwood herringbone parquet floor adds real warmth and character, complemented by a multi-fuel stove positioned in the forward starboard corner — ideal for cosy evenings aboard. There is ample space for a double sofa bed, and practical touches include USB and 12v cigarette lighter sockets at gunwale height at both the bow end and midpoint of the room.
Moving aft, the galley kitchen is well laid out and functional, featuring a Vanette four-ring gas hob, 12v under-counter fridge, sink with a large draining board, and plenty of cupboard space. A fold-up worktop extension provides extra preparation space when needed, and a swan hatch on the starboard side adds light and ventilation.
A door separates the living space from the rear section of the boat, leading to the bathroom. This area currently includes a sink and generous space for a toilet and shower to be installed. Plumbing is already in place, having previously accommodated a washing machine using a thermostatic mixing valve and calorifier, making conversion to a shower room straightforward.
At the stern, electrics monitoring and the inverter are neatly located, with the engine accessible both from the bathroom and beneath the rear floor. A hatch has been added to the back deck to provide easier access to the weed hatch — a practical upgrade for ongoing maintenance.
Arthur benefits from an excellent hull, last blacked in October 2024 using three coats of International bitumen, with four new anodes fitted at the same time. Built and fitted out by Colecraft, he offers solid construction, a traditional feel, and plenty of scope for personalisation.
